This is the most famous photo of the monster.  It was taken in 1934.   Dr. Robert Wilson was credited with taking this now-iconic shot. It appears to show the head and neck of an animal rising from the water.

At first the London doctor refused to have his name associated with the picture. However the image was later revealed as a hoax in the 1970s (almost 40 years later!).

A friend of the doctor's Christian Spurling later claimed that the image showed a toy submarine bought from Woolworths with a head made from modelling clay.
