    Here are the letters in the English alphabet:

    < a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, z>

    Remember that <a>, <e>, <i>, and <o> are always vowels and that <y>, <w>, and <u> act as vowels or consonants at different times.

    The other letters in the alphabet are always consonants.

    Examples

    Label the following as a "vowel," a "consonant," or "sometimes a vowel and sometimes a consonant."

    1. <e> is a vowel.
    2. <y> is sometimes a vowel and sometimes a consonant.
    3. <s> is a consonant.
