In 1975, sonar started being used to search for the monster. New technology allowed Nessie hunters to look underneath as well as above the water. Boats equipped with high-powered sonar were soon ploughing the 23-mile loch, which has maximum depth of 750ft This image taken by US inventor Robert Rines, and later enhanced by computer, appears to show a long-necked animal. In fulfilling his lifelong ambition to prove the existence of Nessie, Rines was credited with useful innovations in radar, sonar, and ultrasound. |
