  • We analyzed the poem for two key elements- rhythm and rhyme.

    For rhythm we noticed that each line has 4 syllables.  Think of syllables as the "bounce" in the word.  "Roses" has 2 syllable sounds- "Ro" + "ses," but "red" has only one syllable sound.

    For rhyme we noticed that the second and fourth lines rhymed/  They had an end of the word rhyme that sounded like the "oo" in "you."

    So, if we want to create poems based on the "Roses are red" poem, we need:

    • 4 lines of writing
    • 4 syllables in each line
    • lines 2 and 4 should rhyme
