Inferring

  • Inferring is a high level reading skill.  It means figuring out something that the author doesn't actually say. You can use clues that are in the text, and things from your own mind. Sometimes it's called "reading between the lines," and it adds a lot more meaning to the story.

On the next page, check out the part about inferring by clicking on the magnifying glass.  You may have to go to the "Student Area" skip the login and click the "Try it yourself" button.  Click on different images to see how inferencing is done (you probably already do this, but when asked questions you have to support your answers with details).
