Ordinarily we pay little attention to the words we speak. We concentrate instead on the meaning we want to express and seldom care where words come from. But, know where words come from can help us if we make mistakes or have difficulty remembering meanings, or just want to increase the number of words we can use to make our communication (speaking or writing) more interesting. Sometimes knowing the origin of a word can be just an interesting (or annoying) bit of trivia.
One interesting way words are created is that some words come from a person's name. An eponym is a word derived from someone's name.
