  • Here's is one of the most memorable scenes from the 1931 movie version of Frankenstein.  This scene is important in two ways: it shows how some people, like kids, might not see the monster as scary just because he is different, and it shows how misunderstood the monster is.  In the book, the monster is vengeful.  This makes us feel that the monster could be the antagonist/ bad guy.  In the movie, the monster is more child-like. And this sets the reader up for a tragic ending.

Choosing the basic motivation for your monster is a key element in your story.
